Professional summer workwear for women staying cool and stylish

Summer Workwear For Women. How to Stay Cool and Look Professional.

As I write this blog post, it is 38°C here in France. We’re in the middle of a heatwave, and the air feels almost still. As someone who works in the commercial sector and usually adheres to a corporate dress code, I know that looking polished and professional is part of the job, no matter how hot the weather gets.

This morning, I found myself standing in front of my wardrobe, wondering what to wear. I wanted something that would keep me cool while maintaining my professional appearance and adhering to the office dress code.

As I picked out my beige trousers and cream linen blouse, I realised that lots of women must be facing the same challenge. That’s what inspired me to write this blog post.

If you’re trying to stay comfortable during the summer while maintaining a professional image at work, these simple tips may help!

1. Choose Breathable Fabrics

Natural materials such as linen, cotton, and viscose, as well as lightweight blends like chinos, allow air to circulate, helping keep you cool throughout the day.

2. Opt For Light Colours

Lighter shades such as beige, cream, white, light blue, and pastel tones reflect heat better than darker colours. They also create a fresh and sophisticated office look.

3. Choose Relaxed Yet Tailored Fits

Relaxed-fit pieces promote airflow and prevent the discomfort caused by tight clothing. Items such as flowy shortsleeved blouses, shirts, wide-leg trousers, midi dresses and A-line or midi skirts can help you stay cool while maintaining a professional appearance.

4. Keep Your Outfit Simple

Minimise excessive layering, choose clean lines and quality fabrics for a polished look that won’t feel restrictive. A simple combination of lightweight tailored trousers and a blouse often looks more polished than an overly styled outfit.

5. Choose Lightweight Accessories

Don’t overdo the accessories; opt for loafers, flats, a classic watch, simple earrings, and a structured handbag to complete your look while keeping you comfortable throughout the day.

6. Stay Prepared for Air-Conditioned Offices

Keep a linen or lightweight blazer in the office for meetings or air-conditioned environments. This allows you to stay professional without overheating during your commute.

I hope these tips help you as much as they help me to maintain a polished corporate look while navigating the French summer.
