Summer is the season to shine, but certain fashion choices can make you feel uncomfortable, sweaty and overheated.
Here are 6 common summer style mistakes to avoid, and what to wear instead to stay cool, chic and comfortable during the hottest days of the year.
1. Wearing Dark Colours
Black may be chic, but dark colours absorb more heat. Instead, choose light colours such as white, beige, pastel shades, soft mint, baby blue, blush pink and butter yellow, which reflect sunlight and help you to feel cooler.
2. Choosing Heavy, Non-Breathable Fabrics
Synthetic fabrics, such as polyester, tend to trap heat and moisture, which makes hot days even more uncomfortable. Opt for breathable, natural fabrics such as linen, cotton, viscose, and lyocell that allow air to circulate and help wick away sweat, offering both comfort and a timeless style during summer.
3. Wearing Clothes That Are Too Tight
Skin-tight clothing restricts airflow and can make you sweat more. Wear flowy dresses, wide-leg trousers, linen shorts, or oversized shirts, relaxed co-ordinates, to let your skin breathe while looking effortlessly stylish.
4. Ignoring Breathable Footwear
Heavy trainers and closed shoes can quickly become uncomfortable in hot weather because they trap heat and cause your feet to sweat. Swap them for sandals, espadrilles, lightweight loafers or sling-back ballet flats to keep your feet cool.
5. Over-Accessorising
While wearing chunky jewellery and carrying oversized bags may look fashionable, the truth is that too many accessories can make you feel hot and uncomfortable in hot weather. Keep it simple with delicate jewellery, a woven tote bag, and minimalist earrings.
6. Forgetting Sun Protection
Protecting yourself from the sun is essential for staying comfortable and preventing damage caused by its harmful UV rays. This includes: SPF 50+ sunscreen, a chic, wide-brimmed hat, UV-protective sunglasses, and a lightweight cover-up, such as a scarf for extra protection
These items will help you stay safe while adding a touch of style to your summer wardrobe.
