how to find your skin undertone

How to Identify Your Skin Undertone

Knowing your skin undertone is important because it helps you choose colours that naturally complement your complexion, making your skin look healthier, brighter, and more balanced.

Your undertone, whether warm, cool, or neutral, affects how different shades of makeup, clothing, and even hair colour appear on you.

When you wear colours that match your undertone, your overall appearance looks more harmonious and vibrant; when the undertone clashes, skin can appear dull, tired, or uneven.

Here are three ways to identify your skin undertone:

1. Check Your Veins:

Look at the veins on your wrist in natural light.

  • If your veins appear green, then you have a warm undertone.
  • If your veins appear blue or purple, then you have a Cool undertone.
  • If your veins appear both (blue-green), then you have a Neutral undertone.

2. Gold and Silver Jewellery Test:

Try holding gold and silver jewellery near your face.

  • If the gold looks particularly harmonious, then you might have a warm skin tone.
  • If silver looks better, you might have a cool undertone.
  • If both gold and silver look good, you may have a neutral undertone.

3. White vs. Cream Fabric Test:

Hold white and cream clothing near your face.

  • For a warm skin undertone, you will notice that the cream looks better on you.
  • Whereas pure white clothes look better on a cool skin undertone.
  • And both white and cream look fine on a neutral skin undertone.

4. Do You Tan or Burn?

Does your skin go from pale to tan easily during the summer? Or does it burn easily? Or does it tan slowly?

  • Warm undertones tan easily.
  • Cool undertones burn easily.
  • Neutral undertones tan slowly.

Understanding your undertone can make shopping easier and more efficient. It helps you choose the right shade of foundation for your face, as well as flattering colours of clothing and jewellery that enhance your natural features.
